  • Rights groups will scrutinise government response, while Western firms will likely face pressure to support supply chain partners amid downturn

  • Credit rating downgrade will further complicate efforts to stimulate economic growth amid COVID-19 outbreak
  • Downgrade will force Government to approach IMF for support, strengthening arguments by President’s allies for structural reform

  • Enforcement of curfew and measures aimed at halting spread of COVID-19 will lead to clashes between authorities and informal sector workers

  • Limits to movement and ban on mass gatherings will subdue political rivalries over proposed constitutional reforms for now
