Analysis

A Taliban delegation led by the group’s co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar met with US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in Islamabad on 3 October. They reportedly discussed resuming regular talks around a US withdrawal from Afghanistan, as well as the status of political prisoners. The delegation also met with Pakistani intelligence chief Faiz Hameed and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who urged a resumption of talks with Washington.
