Zimbabwe has a plan to end 20-year standoff with creditors
Our Senior Analyst speaks to Bloomberg on the growing concerns surrounding Zimbabwe’s 20 year standoff with creditors and this will likely impact the country’s economic future.
Police charged a group of protesters in Harare’s city center on Friday, leaving a woman lying motionless on the street before she was taken to hospital by Red Cross personnel. More demonstrations are planned for next week in major cities including Bulawayo, Mutare and Gweru.
“Despite this ban, the desperation of most Zimbabweans means that future sustained protest movements are likely,” said Mathias Hindar, an analyst at risk consultancy Falanx Assynt. “Continued brutal crackdowns will thus increase the risk of Zimbabwe reaching a tipping point.”
