Here’s some commentary on BA’s decision to suspend flights to China from Alexander Sehmer, an aviation expert at Falanx Assynt, a geopolitical risk consultancy.

Mr Sehmer has argued that the cancellations are motivated by economics rather than concerns over public health.

The decision by major airlines to suspend flights to mainland China is in large part a commercial one,” he said.

The simple fact is that there is little-to-no demand to fly to either Shanghai or Beijing at this moment in time. Economics are a key driver behind this decision.
