The White House meeting comes at a time when US-Pakistan relations are strained. Trump stopped annual security payments to the Pakistani military, worth over USD 1 billion, in January 2018 and, in a Twitter spat with Khan, publicly accused Pakistan of sheltering terrorist organisations.
